July 30th, Australia Day 159

These are the photos I took on the fourth day of my tour as I left the Red Center for Darwin.

Just north of Alice Springs lies the Tropic of Capricorn and this model marks its place. We arrived at the Tropic a little before sunrise. Posted by Picasa

This is a 2-car Road Train which I saw parked on the way north. It is a small one considering that most Road Trains are 3 or 4 cars long. Posted by Picasa

This is the first of 3 photos which shows a panorama of the Devil's Marbles. The first European explorers gave the area this name because of the strange rock formations, the Aborigine legends of evil in the area and the general hostility of the local environment. These were all formed by wind eroding the stone into these round marble-like forms. Posted by Picasa

These are some other marble fields near the Devil's Marbles. Posted by Picasa

I called this formation the "Egg Marble" or the "Easter Egg". Not very imaginative I know, but it accurately describes the stone. Posted by Picasa

This is a solidly built built termite mound, about 30 centimeters high, amidst the Devil's Marbles. Posted by Picasa

Because of the perponderance of marbles around this hill, I call it "Marble Hill". Posted by Picasa

This is my favourite formation in the Devil's Marbles. I call this the "Devil's Hand" for obvious reasons Posted by Picasa

This marble is balancing itself on top of another stone. Posted by Picasa

Those outcrops in the distacne are also marble fields. Posted by Picasa

These 2 marbles are the most photographed of the Devil's Marbles. Posted by Picasa

These are the same marbles, just from the other side. Posted by Picasa

From the bus I tok this photo of a field of termite mounds and these formations are commn all along the Stuart Highway. Posted by Picasa

This is the Mary Ann Dam where we stopped for lunch a few hours north of Alice Springs. Posted by Picasa
